What our memebers say…

  • Low impact, improve health, mindfulness

“This class has improved my mood and increased my sense of peace. It is a wonderful low-impact workout that is fun and rewarding. I feel that it has improved my physical health. The most attractive aspect of the class is that it is a moving meditation and that has been so helpful for winding down from a difficult work week. If you are looking for a mindfulness building activity, somewhere between sitting meditation and yoga, this is the class for you!

I appreciate the patience of the instructors, the positive attitude of the other attendees, and the sense of community with the class. Fong and the assistant instructors are obviously very knowledgeable. They are able to give helpful and specific feedback that has helped me to improve my form. “

    —Micaela

  • Mind/body practice and a sense of community

“I've been doing Tai Chi with the Aiping Tai Chi Center of Austin for a few years now. It's a wonderful mind/body practice that helps calm and focus the mind as well as restore energy to the body. In addition to her lifelong practice, Shifu Fong is a kind and welcoming person who creates an atmosphere of learning and a sense of community.”

    —Sondra

  • Quality instructions focusing on building a strong foundation

“The best quality of Tai Chi for health focused curriculum.”

    —Brian

“Small, intimate, detailed instruction. I like that we continue working the basics to get a strong foundation.”

    —Sheila

  • Help cope with medical treatment

In my journey through breast cancer treatment I have found Shifu Fong’s lessons on Qigong and Tai Chi incredibly helpful.

All throughout chemotherapy, surgery pre and post op, and radiation Shifu Fong’s guidance, openness, and kindred spirit have helped my journey through treatment.

I would do either the 8 brocades or the ones I could before every chemo session, surgery, and pre-post radiation sessions. It was really funny to have my sister practice Qigong with me right before surgery while hooked to the IV.

Every Sunday after class I could feel the energy and mood change after lesson, not only because of the practice but also because of the kind community that Shifu Fong fostered in every lesson.

Now if I go for a walk or a run I finish with qigong and then I am ready to go with my mind, body, and soul balanced.

I am ready to continue advancing Tai Chi as well.

    Thank you dear Shifu Fong!

About Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a gentle exercise and movement practice developed in Ancient China. It restores balance in the body, reduces stress in life, and has many proven health benefits. Tai Chi utilizes the ancient philosophy of Yin-Yang and the Five Elements theories for its foundation and to establish its training principles.

Although Tai Chi originated from Martial Art, it is practiced for centuries for its health benefits. The experience of hundreds of years has shown that practicing Tai Chi regularly can improve health, reduce tension, and improve the overall wellbeing of a person. It can help with several symptoms such as high blood pressure, arthritis, asthma, stomach ailments, heart problems, anxiety, and insomnia. It also helps reduce stress, calm the mind and bring ease and tranquility to one’s life. As a result, a person can feel more relaxed, have better sleep, and feel more energized

Tai Chi can be practiced in many ways. One can practice Tai Chi either as a type of Martial Art, a gentle exercise, a therapeutic measure to fight against illness, or as a moving meditation to bring more awareness to one’s body.
