About Our Classes

About Our Class

We conduct our classes by sessions. Instructions are given in a small group setting to meet each student’s needs. Beginner students and students who have no prior Tai Chi experience are welcome to join. Students may join at any time.

There are many different styles of Tai Chi. Aiping Tai Chi Center - Austin teaches traditional Yang, Chen, and Sun style Tai Chi, as well as Contemporary standardized Tai Chi forms, and Tai Chi weapons forms.

Our teaching focuses on the health and wellness aspect of a Tai Chi practice. Our goal is to introduce and promote Tai Chi to the community and help cope with all health and stress related issues that we all face everyday in the modern world. Meanwhile, we want to build a healthy and loving community that we can support each other on our journey of self-improvement and self-discovery.

At Aiping Tai Chi Center - Austin, we strive to provide quality and authentic Tai Chi instructions to students.

Beginner Tai Chi Class

Students at all levels are welcome. Students will learn the fundamentals of Tai Chi, including the basic postures, breathing and meditation techniques, and a short form “Eight Power and Five Stances”.  Students will then move on to learn a couple of short forms of Tai Chi. Students who are starting their Tai Chi journey or who would like to review the basics of Tai Chi movements are welcome to join. Class is tailored to the students who sign up. Students will be provided with targeted instructions to meet individual’s needs.

Intermediate /Advanced Tai Chi Class

Intermediate Class will focus on Yang Style Simplified 24 Forms.  Advanced Class will start to introduce more advanced forms and weapon forms. Through regularly practicing and working on the details of each movement, students improve their overall quality in postures and bring their understanding of Tai Chi practice to a higher level. Instructions are tailored to the students’ level of experience.

What To Expect

Our classes are relaxed and friendly and focused on improving as a group. A typical class schedule includes our greeting and announcements, a warm-up, standing meditation (zhan zhuang), group Tai Chi practice and small group breakouts. During the group and breakout times, instruction is tailored to each student based on their progress and skill. It is during this time that students will receive the most instruction and correction on their movements and posture with the goal being to give each individual something new they can work on in between classes.

Some additional points of note include:

  • To sign up for a class, please go to the booking site, and create an account. You will then be able to book your desired class.

  • Please bring a clean pair of shoes to change into so we can keep the floor of our space clean. We recommend lightweight shoes with a flat sole.

  • Consider arriving a few minutes before class starts to change shoes and loosen up your body.

  • Wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move and stretch in.

  • Listen to your body! Only go as far as is comfortable for your body and make necessary adjustments. Quality in Tai Chi is found in the way our body moves at a whole rather than how high or low we can kick or step.
